  • So, it looks like we’re finally getting a sunny and warm day, here in the Nation’s Capital, which is about time. That said, it still won’t be hot enough that I would need to plug in the air conditioner, which isn’t such a bad thing.

Work was a bit slower yesterday as I tried to get more ducks into rows, but at the end of the day, I got emailed about an assignment for this morning. It’s a collaborative one, where basically I’ll be researching half the piece, and someone else is writing it up. I’m not sure how the pay works for that, but whatever. It’s a couple hours of work, which I should be getting to right away…

On the OSAP front, I got the last of my paperwork in yesterday, so now I have to wait a couple more days for the Awards Office to open up a file for me and assign a case-worker to it. So, Monday, probably. Joy. Also, I got an email from OSAP saying they’ve revised my estimate – I’m now eligible for $147 to be paid out in January. Wow – that’s so totally going to make all the difference in the world! Jackasses.

The movie last night was Captain Blood – a prototypical swashbuckling film, being one of Errol Flynn’s earliest studio pictures. It was also a pirate film, which stood out in contrast to the more recent ones, such as the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. In other words, the special effects were almost non-existent, but hey, there was meat and politics to the backstory, all about the rebellion in England surrounding King James. Also – definite slash potential between Captain Blood and his navigator, Jeremy Pitt (who upon perusing the actor’s biography, it turns out was a closeted gay man who had a tragic short life). Nevertheless, it was a fun film to watch.

Tonight I’ll be pulling out my copy of the Complete Works of Shakespeare in order to read a play as research for a story I’m working on. Having to read Shakespeare for work? Salt mines, I tell you.
